At Boomkamp Nurseries, we like to do things the right way. That is why we grow our range entirely in-house. We know every characteristic of each plant and the best way to maintain and care for it. That way, we are consciously working (for the environment). Everything in our own hands!

Monitoring

Choosing Preventive Approach

By paying close attention to the usefulness and necessity of pesticides, we limit their use as much as possible. Our nursery is also monitored for this through the MPS certification.

We apply fertilisers in doses. Excess water in the container fields and greenhouses is collected and reused to prevent waste and leaching. Where possible, we take a preventive approach that encourages the growth of strong, healthy plants.

We combine this with the use of biological control. We use plant enhancers and natural control. For example, we control caterpillars with bacterial preparations, beetles and larvae with nematodes and plant-parasitic nematodes by sowing colourful marigolds. We also sow green manures for natural fertilisation and flower mixtures to stimulate insect life.

GPS Automations

We will stay within the beaten green lanes

GPS is an important factor in the automation of nursery operations. Using GPS, we accurately measure the plots. Based on the GPS data, machines drive along the same track each time, exactly in the middle of a row. This minimises the number of plants damaged by steering errors and creates tight, symmetrically pruned plants. GPS also offers advantages in terms of uniformity and speed of operation, and provides environmental benefits because it allows us to dose nutrients and crop protection agents very precisely and without overlap.

Mechanisation

Maintenance and modernisation of machinery

Boomkamp constantly invests in the maintenance and renewal of its machinery. Among other things, we use machines for planting, pruning, clodding and uprooting. The mechanisation within the nursery ensures uniform quality and size of the plants. As a result, well-rooted root balls can be delivered by regular rooting. Machines take over heavy single-duty work and reduce the physical strain on staff. The use of mechanical weed control also helps minimise the use of plant protection products.
